"I should go." Sakura announced
quietly, pushing himself to his feet and making for the door. He turned
around to give Tetsu one last glance over his shoulder. The Star's complete
attention was still with Hyde, his slender fingers gently brushing though
the unruly strands of bangs scattered across his forehead. He seemed not
to even notice that Sakura had gone. The dark form paused in the door way
for a moment, wishing against everything that there was some way that he
was the sole captor of the Star's attentions. He sighed, knowing he had
already taken too long--there were other... matters... to tend to, and
besides that it was against his better judgment to let the others to know
how deeply his feelings did run for the Star. It could be dangerous not
only for him, but for Tetsu as well.
"Wait.. Sakura." Tetsu called
after the dark form just as he was leaving. Sakura paused, trying not to
let the flutterings in his chest be shown on his face. Tetsu smiled at
him, turning away from Hyde for a moment, though not letting go of his
hand--'no.. not ever', Sakura thought acidly, thought it was softened by
the gentle smile the Star was wearing as he gazed up at the other. "Thank
you." Sakura shrugged, caught off guard with nothing to say. Tetsu smiled
again, his innocent face lighting up with the brilliance of a clear night
sky, "Thank you for everything you've done for us."
Sakura nodded, not sure
if Tetsu's words would make him laugh or cry. He left though, before the
Star could see him do either one.
"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO?"
It took all of Sakura's
self-control to keep from killing the boy dreamily stretched out in the
late afternoon sun. Yukki yawned once as if he hadn't heard Sakura's enraged
approach, and tucked his head into his arms to shade the sun from his eyes.
"Damn you, I know you can
hear me." Sakura growled at Yuki, glaring menacingly at the other boy after
he finally chose to acknowledge Sakura's presence. "You could have ruined
everything!!" furious, he grabbed Yukihiro by the collar in an attempt
to shake the impassive expression on the smaller boy's face.
"I don't understand," Yuki
smirked, trying to ignore the fact that Sakura was slowly cutting off his
air supply, "I thought you would be thanking me. After all, it's not very
often that your beloved Star takes a moment to tear his eyes off of Hyde
to give you the time of day." Yuki's expression darkened just slightly
when the raven-haired boy's name slid off his lips. "I thought you would
have wanted me to finish my job."
"You bastard," Sakura spat,
dropping the other boy on the floor, "This wasn't what we agreed on."
"Things have changed." Yukihiro
stated plainly. "I need to be sure that my.. investment is still safe."
He tugged at his collar, repositioning it before returning to the patch
of sunlight he had been resting in before he had been interrupted. "If
that's all..."
But Sakura wasn't finished.
He turned to face the other boy, this time with a broad grin on his face.
"I understand now," he began, talking to himself more than to Yuki, "You're
scared. Levin almost ruined your plans yesterday." Yuki opened his mouth
to protest, but found that the words refused to come out. "You would never
be that bold on your own accord," Sakura laughed to himself, "this explains
it all."
"You.. you don't know anything!"
Yuki finally managed to shout, though Sakura's smile just broadened.
"Thank you Yukki-kun.. for
our little talk." And he was gone.
Hyde's pain was so acute
that Tetsu could hardly stand to be beside him. It was radiating off in
waves like searing bolts of energy. The Star's healing touch did manage
to calm him occasionally, but it wasn't the scars on his body that were
troubling him. Laying beside his beloved, Tetsu looked up to the night
sky through the window, begging to the heavens that there was something
he could do. If only he knew what--or more likely, who--it was that had
inflicted Hyde with so much pain. He cradled Hyde's head in his arms and
closed his eyes, trying to gently probe into the other's troubled mind,
only to be met with the same resistance as before. It was if Hyde were
purposely trying to keep him out, to guard what had happened to him. It
was the only explanation, but it made no sense. By shielding what it was
from Tetsu, he was allowing the hurt to grow and fester inside of him.
With each minute, he was distancing himself further and further from the
one he loved. Tetsu couldn't think of anything that could possibly be that
horrible that Hyde would keep from him. He only wished that he could know.
